Arbitrage, in the trade-up context, is simpler than it sounds: the same skin, sometimes the exact same float, is priced differently across CSFloat, DMarket, and Skinport at the same moment. Most of the time the gap is small and not worth chasing. Sometimes it's large enough to change whether a contract is profitable, or to be a trade in its own right. Why Prices Differ Across Markets
Marketplace fee structures aren't symmetric, and sellers price around them. A seller on Skinport, which charges an 8% seller fee, has to list higher to net the same amount as a seller on CSFloat or DMarket, both of which take 2%. That asymmetry alone creates a structural, mechanical price gap for the same item across markets — not a coincidence, not mispricing, just fee pass-through. On top of the structural fee gap sits genuine mispricing: thinner order books on one market, a seller who hasn't updated a listing in days, or simple inattention to a specific float. These gaps are smaller individually but more numerous, and they're the ones a systematic, float-aware pricing model finds far more reliably than manual browsing.
Float-Value Arbitrage
The sharpest version of this isn't "same skin, different market" — it's "same skin, same condition label, very different float, priced the same." A skin listed as Factory New at float 0.001 and another Factory New listing of the same skin at float 0.069 can carry a real, meaningful value difference that a flat "Factory New" price tag hides completely. A pricing model that resolves value at the exact float, not the condition bucket, catches listings that are underpriced for their specific float — inventory that looks ordinary in a condition-sorted list but is actually a bargain once you check the number.
